Hour Mural was a community art project I initiated and completed

in collaboration with the teenagers of Hour Children.

The project was funded by a successful Kickstarter campaign.

The Hour Mural is a 77 foot X 6 foot mural housed beside

Saint Rita's Church at 36-11 12th street in Long Island City, NY 11106.

Hour Children is a not-for-profit agency that works to end the cycle of

intergenerational incarceration in families affected by incarceration.

I started volunteering with Hour Children during weekly meetings

with the Teen Program in May 0f 2015

It was during those afterschool meetings that we

designed "Hour Mural" to tell the story of Hour Children

  in the teens own words.

Hour Mural was painted on Thanksgiving weekend (2015) when over 40 members

of the community came together to paint and complete the project

in one truly amazing day.

I continue to both volunteer and make art with the teens.

After completing the mural I initiated and am teaching a

weekly art class for the teen program.

I am incredibly grateful to Kellie Phelan and Sister Tesa

and the amazing staff and families at Hour Childrne

for their continued support and blessings.
